MAKEUP INSPIRED BY A FILM PART 3

Some of you may know that I have a series on my blog called "Makeup Inspired by a Film". I've done two previous posts, The beauty and the beast and The avengers. This one, however, is a bit different. I teamed up with Ohitssare to do a collaboration!

We did a poll on twitter a couple of weeks back and asked you guys to decide what your favourite 90's Fantasy Film was! The answer was EDWARD SCISSORHANDS!

Now if you haven't read any of my previous posts on this series then here's a little rundown on how I decide on the looks etc,

I ask my twitter follower (@tmaemakeup) what their favourite film is out of 4 options. The one with the most votes win. We then research the Film poster (normally the most well known/popular poster the film has) and take inspiration from that. I pick a few colours that really pop in the picture and elaborate on them to create a crazy makeup look.

Obviously, this isn't a help blog, this is literally just for fun so if you want to have a look at the weird makeup looks we created then keep reading!

Here is the movie poster we were inspired by (Sarah and I decided to both use the same poster to get similar looks but not identical looks)

Here is my look:

This post is going to be all about how I created my look if you want to see how Sarah created hers I'm going to leave the link below!

Eyes

I used my bae, morphe 12NB palette on the eyes to create a dramatic cut crease. I used one of the darker shades in the palette to create the sharp line. I then carved the line out with my Boing concealer from benefit. I decided on a double winged liner with a pop of glitter in the middle. The inner corners of my eyes were quite a big part of this look so I added a matte blue from my Electric palette and used a naked white pigment (super glittery) over the top to add the shimmery effect. I then used eyelash glue and some sequins to give it the extra sparkle. I wanted the sequins to reflect the silver from the scissors.

Lips

For the lips, I used Mac's black track fluid line and mix a small amount with the blue brown pigment for the outer corners. I then mixed black track with the white naked pigment I used on the eyes, for the inner part of the lips. I added a sequin to the top & bottom lip too just to join the eyes and lips together.

Cheeks & Contour

For the cheeks & contour, I decided to not make it super sharp. I used a big fluffy blusher brush from RT and used a purple shadow from my Morphe Bright palette to add some deeper colour to the cheek. I didn't want it to be an obvious purple cheek so I added Hoola Bronzer to contour and soften the purple. For the Iconic Edward scars, I decided to jazz them up a bit and used body shoppers glitter line to create faux glitter scars.

Base

For my Base, I used Mac's face & body in C3. I used a buffer brush from Urban Decay and then pressed it in with a damp RT sponge. For my concealer, I used a mix of NYX foundation Stick in fair & Mac Mineralise Concealer in NC15.

This is a fun look for anyone who has a fancy dress party coming up and what's to go as the female Edward Scissorhands.

"Edwina Scissorhands, the bitch with the poppin highlight and the Scissorhands to die for"

 hahaha. (totes kidding, maybe)

Here's the link to Sarah's blog post! Her look is so pretty so you should definitely check it out!

MAKEUP INSPIRED BY A FILM PART 2

I have finally put PART 2 of the MAKEUP INSPIRED BY A FILM mini-series up! I have 2 others already planned (I put a poll on my twitter & get you guys to vote out of four films)!

If you hadn't already guessed this is my Avengers inspired makeup look! I gave my twitter followers the choice of four Marvel films, (Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy - Avengers won by 44% of the votes)

Part 1 was inspired by The Beauty & The Beast you can check it out here ---> http://bit.ly/2aO8V4t

This look was actually incredibly hard to do as I wanted to incorporate all the eye-popping colors but they didn't all match so it was definitely a mission! I am quite happy with how the look turned out, it's definitely not an everyday food shopping kind of look!

I wanted the colors to be an accurate depiction of The Avengers! I chose the Red cut crease for Thor's cape, Captain America's shield, and Iron Man's suit. I chose the Blue under the eyes from Captain America's suit, Thor's hammer and Iron Man's hand. The purple and green (eyebrows and highlight) was of course for the Hulk and the shiny grey lips were for the rest of the Avengers to tie them all together.

I'm going to go through how I got this look and what products I used!

So first up, BASE;

For primer I used Elf Hydrating Face Primer, I literally swear by this. I have super dry skin and it actually really does hydrate your skin but it also glides over any dry patches you have, it's very silicone-y which I love but not everyone does. I think this would be a love/hate kind of product but for £5 it's worth a try!

I used my beloved Maybelline Dewy & Smooth Fit Me foundation. I have spoken about this countless times now but it's defo my fav foundation at the moment.

BareSkin concealer has now become a staple piece in my makeup routine. I will definitely be repurchasing. I used this, obviously to conceal but also to highlight. You really don't have to use a lot of this product as a lot goes a long way!

I then used Sephora Loose translucent finishing powder (Not pictured, soz). I am still searching for my perfect finishing powder, so if anyone has any suggestions that are good for dry skin then hook me up, please!

To finish off my base, I spritzed NYX dewy finish setting spray. I love this, probably more than my Urban Decay setting spray! It leaves your skin looking healthy & glowy but also helps your makeup stay on all day!

Highlighting was the most difficult part but I decided to use my Urban Decay Electric Palette to create the green hue I wanted. I used a mix of the shadows - "Thrash" & "Freak".

EYES:

The eyes were the pivotal part of this makeup look!

I used Makeup Forever Pigment in a bright red shade, This hasn't got a product name but they are pure pigments. I knew I wanted a bright red sharp cut crease and it was so hard to find a red but this is so amazingly pigmented, I definitely will be buying other colours.

My Urban Decay Electric palette made another appearance, I used the bright blue shade "Chaos" under the eyes. I then used the Purple colour "Urban" for my eyebrows. I adore this palette and I definitely got my money's worth with the amount I've used it!

For the lids, I used a mixture of the Body Shop glitter eyeliner in Silver and a Silver Face Glitter from the Sassy Company. I also dropped some of the glitters under the eyes to create glitter tears. This was to give my eyes a metallic shine to them.

For the eyeliner, I used my trusty Motives Jet Black Gel eyeliner in little black dress. This is the most pigmented gel eyeliner I've ever got! I absolutely love it, I've had it for about a year and it still hasn't dried up!

Mac Extended play is my go to for mascara so ofc I used this product on this look! I coated my top & bottom lashes to create a sort of spidery effect. (This is as spidery as I can get them without them going clumpy, #NOLASHES)

LIPS:

For the lips, I simply used a grey eyeliner (Dior Kohl Stick in Smoky Grey) and put vaseline over the top to create the shiny look to it.

SO THAT IS THE LOOK! I thought a fun thing to do would be to calculate how much this look would cost and maybe add some cheaper alternatives?

Total Look:

Primer: £5.00
Foundation: £5.99
Concealer: £22.00
Powder: £12.00
Setting Spray £7.00

Pigment: £13.00
Electric Palette: £38.00
Glitter eyeliner: (not sure about £5.00)
Face Glitter: £8.00
Eyeliner: £15.00
Mascara: £15.00

TOTAL: £163.49

(ALTERNATIVES THAT I COULD FIND)

MAKEUP INSPIRED BY A FILM PART 1

I recently did a poll on Twitter asking my followers what their favourite Disney movie was out of a selected few.

I gave the choice of Peter Pan, The Beauty and The beast, Tangled and The lion King.
I didn't tell my followers exactly WHY I was asking them and just waited for people to carry on voting. After leaving it live for people to vote for 24 hours I went back and checked the results.
I was quite surprised at the results, I had my favourite in mind which I was expecting to win but it didn't!

* DRUM ROLL PLEASE *

The winner by 41% was The Beauty and The beast.

This is when the real fun happened. I decided to do a mini-series on my blog on makeup looks INSPIRED by film covers or a particular scene in the film, I took inspiration from the colour scheme and the general film itself.
For "The Beauty and The beast", I chose an iconic scene in the film: the scene in which The Beast gets a makeover and Belle is wearing the amazing yellow dress. I entered a little picture of the exact scene below.

I decided to use the two noticeable colours of Blue and Yellow to be the main part of the look. I then added a hint of pink (as seen on Belles lips and cheeks) and a tad of black to add definition!

Here's the end look:

I decided on a blue and yellow eye, using the blue as a crease colour and added yellow across the lid. I add some winged liner to define the eyes and mascara and lashes. (Ardell, Demi whispies).
I wanted the face to be flawless and porcelain-like to add the Disney element as all these Disney princesses look like dolls!!

After that, I added the pop of pink to the lips and cheeks!

Here's a more in-depth list of the products I used:

The main makeup product I used for the eyes was this baby:

The Urban Decay Electric Palette

This is and will always be one of my favourite palettes.

I used the shade Chaos and Gonzo on the crease to create that wild bright blue, this actually matched the colour in the beauty and the beast picture perfectly! I love this product, I know some people either love or hate urban decay shadows but for me, they are my ride or die. I can't live without my naked palettes, I love the pigmentation and creaminess of all of their shadows!

I then used the yellow from this Morphe Bright Mattes palette.

Again, I love this palette. I think all of these are actually really pretty and wearable in certain ways. I obviously wouldn't go out with this yellow and blue shadow all over my face but as a pop of colour, this palette is a go-to for me!

For my base makeup, I used a new foundation. The Maybelline Fit me Dewy finish foundation. Now if you follow me on any social media platform you will know how much I LOVE the Maybelline fit me matte & poreless foundation. When I was in America I decided to pick the dewy one up as I have dry skin and thought it would work even better with my skin than the matte one. I hated it as soon as I put it on. However, after getting back from holiday and my skin has got back to its normal dry state it actually is better than the matte for me! So dewy and pretty but still flawless finish.

I then used naked concealer in fair neutral to correct any dark circles and blemishes.

I used one of my favourite mascara's, Mac's In Extreme Dimension 3D black lash to prime my lashes before the fake lashes. If anyone has really short lashes like me this is so good for darkening and lengthening your lashes. 100% recommend if you're in this tiny lash committee!

I then used for my lips the Revlon Ultra HD matte lip colour. I will be doing a full review on this soon so stay tuned for that!

Obviously, this look isn't a wearable going out look but it was so fun to do!

I'm going to try and do one once a month on my blog as I really enjoy the makeup blogs I do and this feels kind of unique and different!

HOLIDAY BEAUTY HAUL

I went on a little shopping trip today with one of my best friends, Charlotte (Fading Tulips on Twitter, go follow her! Her blog is amazing). I had to get a few things for my holiday - beauty wise! Here's what I picked up....

It was a mixture of products from Primark's beauty range, Maybelline, MUA and miss sporty.

I picked up the Maybelline Matte & Poreless foundation. My skin has changed a lot recently from being dry to being a bit oily so I thought this would be a good time to try out this foundation. I got a darker shade to what I would normally have since I'm taking it on holiday. It was £5.99 from Superdrugs.

I picked this shimmer oil for face and body by Solait. I really wanted a nice oil to either mix with my foundation or to wear once I got a bit of a tan just to give me that nice holiday glow. It was £5.49 from Superdrugs.

I loved the packaging for the PS... Primark beauty eye shadow palette. It's so similar to the Mac 9 shadow palettes. They aren't super pigmented but still leave a nice shimmer which is what I wanted. Plus it was only £2.50!

I got these three products from Primark Beauty range. I got a light shade foundation stick, it's really light at least two shades lighter than my skin and I go a concealer that is two shades darker for my contouring sticks to see if they work! I got a CC green correction stick as I've been getting a few blemishes on my face which I hate and I find them hard to cover so I hope this helps! (Foundation stick: £1.50, Concealer: £0.90, CC stick, £2.00)

I got this as a recommendation from Charlotte (who got a recommendation from a blog). It's a glow primer which ofc I will love! It's really pink toned which is the only thing I'm not sure of. So I can't wait to trial it out to see if I like it.

(£2.50)

I also got these three lip products. The PS primark lipgloss is this beautiful coral colour. It's really nice but I don't like the applicator but I think I like everything else. I got the MUA velvet lip lacquer, again at charlottes recommendation! I also got sleek matte me red lipstick. All seem really nice.

(PS lipgloss £2, MUA £3, Sleek £4.99)

Here's a swatch of the lip products!

I hope you enjoyed this blog!

BRIGHT LIPS FOR SPRING

I am FINALLY posting after what feels like forever! I was feeling super down and uninspired to write anything but finally, I feel like I'm back in the swing of it! (Thanks to some helpful persuasion from Ohitssare)

Anyway back to the blog post! I have been feeling bright colours recently it might be from the burst of hot weather we have been having! So I thought I'd do a little blog post on what my fav bright lip colours are at the moment!

I have tried to choose an array of colours rather than just bright pinks! Here's a swatch of the colours!

From left to right;

Revlon Color Stay - Miami Fever

I love this colour at the moment, it's a lip stain and is very glossy which I don't normally like but this one is lush. It's not sticky which is great! I can't stand really sticky glosses! The pigmentation on this is beautiful too. It's sheer but buildable! Plus this was an absolute bargain, I got this in TK MAXX for £2.99!

Forever 21 - Hot House Flower

I got this colour so long ago and it's a staple colour for me around this season, I think it's a really unique colour too! It's really pigmented and has more of a satin finish which I like. It is really transferable so you have to top up quite a bit which is a downside. I think this costs around the £3/4 mark!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet - Frambourjois

This is a colour that's really grown on me! I hated it when I first bought it as I thought it didn't suit me at all but recently it's all I've been wearing! The formula for these is beautiful! It's so creamy and has such a nice finish! I think these retail for around £6/7 but they always have really good deals on in boots and Superdrug's for this line so I think I got a buy one get one free deal when I picked this up!

NYX soft matte cream - Morrocco

I spoke about this colour in my MOTD blog and in my NYX swatches. I am in LOVE with this colour. It's absolutely beautiful, I love the formula, the pigment, the price! Everything! I couldn't fault it honestly! It's a matte lipstick but doesn't feel drying which I love too! I think these retail for £5/6 and you can now get NYX at boots which are amazing but so bad for my bank account!

NYX Liquid Suede - Life's a Beach

When I first this product I was so disappointed! The colour was far too bright that I was kinda overwhelmed with what to wear with it but since trialling it with different makeup looks I've learned to really love it and this will definitely be a great Spring and Summer colour!

Too Faced Color Bomb - Bigger Berry

I really like this product. It's a beautiful berry colour. The formula is very sheer which is nice because sometimes you don't want heavy lipstick on and you just want something light and easy to wear and I think this is definitely an easy wear lipstick!

I hope this has inspired you to try some bright lip colours in your spring / summer wardrobe!

MAKEUP INVENTORY

I recently saw a great blog post about makeup inventory! I thought this was such a good idea because in a couple months you can see if it's grown and what you have more of etc. I am a makeup junkie which is one of the reasons I have so much and I am also a makeup artist and studying makeup at a university so this is why I have a lot of makeup! (I say this now and your gonna read on and think it's a tiny collection! 😂)  I have only done makeup I use on myself for this blog post and have kept my makeup artist kit to one side and my prosthetic kit to one side! I might do a little prosthetic kit blog about what you need and what each product is used for! If you are interested in reading one of those then let me know!

NYX Swatches and Reviews

I recently bought a few products from NYX cosmetics. I have recently become such a huge fan of the company and the cosmetic line. I had been dying to get my hands on the NYX lingerie liquid lipsticks as soon as I saw them advertised on their Instagram page! Thankfully, I got them on Wednesday! (after waiting over a week for them to arrive in the Boots store!) . I also got a cream contour kit, I have not tried one cream contour kit which is crazy since I can't leave my house without contouring my face, in fear I will be mistaken for Miss Piggy! I was really excited to try this. The last two products I got were Matte  lip creams!

NYX Lingerie Lipsticks

I got the shades: Beauty Mark (The darker of the two, Brown) and Exotic (Brick colour). I adore both the colours I got. They retail for £6.50, which I think is really good. The quality of the lipstick is worth a lot more! I've only worn the colours for a few hours so I can't give you a full review yet but I will keep you posted! However, so far I love them. The application is so easy and the colours are extremely pigmented, the colour is the exact colour you see in the packaging which I love!

This is Beauty Mark. I love this colour, its very Autumnal but I would still wear it in Summer because I wouldn't be me without dark lipstick! I have very dry lips naturally so I was presently surprised when I put it on that it didn't dry my lips out (and give me bumhole lips). However, I did find them slightly drying later on in the evening and they did start to seep into the natural cracks of my lips. I knew this would happen with matte lipstick so I wasn't too upset and just whacked some vaseline over the top. It still looked okay with a glossy finish too!

This is Exotic. This is my favourite one of the two colours, which is quite surprising as I thought I would love the darker colour more. This is a deep pink colour, I love it because it's not too in your face, you could wear it during the day or at going out at night with a more dramatic eye makeup look.

I think the colours really commute well on the skin and as you can see from the picture above the colours are true to form too! Even under harsh flash light and overexposure!

Matte Lip Creams

The next two products were definite impulse buys! They retail for £5.50 so I knew if I didn't like them I could kind of justify spending the money by putting them into my mua kit. Luckily, I loved them! I decided to go a bit more out of my comfort zone with the colour choices as I have got into a rut of wearing nudes a lot! (Plus they are perfect holiday colours for when I go to LA). I got the shades "Morocco" (The Coral/Orange one) and Amsterdam (The Red/Pink one). Morocco is my favourite colour, it's so pretty!

This is Amsterdam. I really love this lip cream. It's beautiful and I am beyond surprised at the pigmentation of this. I assumed because it was a creamy matte that it would lack in the pigmentation area, boy was I wrong! Plus the creamy consistency means my lips don't feel so dry which is great! Nothing worse than super dry lips but loving the lipstick you are wearing too much to take it off!

*I haven't taken pictures of "Morocco" yet because I'm going to do a featured makeup look for this! So keep your eyes peeled!

NYX Highlight and Contour palette

This is the product I am regretting buying so far. I had very high expectations for this product, maybe too high, it just wasn't up to par for me. I am going to persevere and see if using different brushes affects the application and blending! So far though I definitely wouldn't repurchase. It retails for £12.00.

Overall. I think it was a pretty successful shopping trip if you ask me! I want to try more lip creams. Does any of you have any recommendations? I'd love to hear them if you do!

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this blog post!
